1. Overview
----------------
This update of the AutoCAD(R) 3D Graphics System provides significant performance
improvements for software and OpenGL accelerated 3D in AutoCAD(R) 2000, and a 
few critical bug fixes. This update is completely compatible with AutoCAD 2000.

The 3D Graphics System Update modifies 3D graphics drivers and DLLs in Autodesk(R)
products that use the new Heidi(R) based 3D Graphics subsystem. These products
include AutoCAD(R) 2000, AutoCAD(R) OEM 2000-based applications, AutoCAD(R) 
Mechanical 2000, Mechanical Desktop(R) 4, AutoCAD Architectural DesktopTM 2,
AutoCAD Map(R) 2000, and AutoCAD LT(R) 2000.

Important File Backup Information

Because there is no uninstall routine for the AutoCAD 3D Graphics System Update, it is strongly recommended that you back up all files that the update installs so that you can restore AutoCAD to its previous state if you have problems with the update. You should backup the following files: 
Note: The file locations of the following files are relative to your AutoCAD or associated product directory (Example C:\Program Files\ACAD2000\) unless you have changed the default options for these locations.

Installation Instructions
-----------------------------

To install the AutoCAD 3D Graphics System Update

1. Close all sessions of AutoCAD 2000.
2. Download the 3Dupdate.exe file to a temporary directory.
3. Double click on the 3Dupdate.exe file.
4. When the Install dialog appears, select Yes.
5. When the Welcome page is displayed, choose Next.
6. When the AutoCAD Location page is displayed, choose Next.
   If the installation application is unable to locate your AutoCAD installation, the 
   AutoCAD Not Found dialog box is displayed. Choose Find AutoCAD Myself to 
   navigate to your installation of AutoCAD, then choose OK..
   When the Setup Confirmation page is displayed, choose Next.
7. Choose Finish.

Note: The installer checks the registry to see which Autodesk products are installed.
If you have more than one Autodesk product installed, you will be asked to select 
the product you want to update. It is recommended that you run the installer and
update all your AutoCAD-based products.

If you have installed the Pentium III version of the heidi6.dll, 
this update contains a version of heidi6.dll compatible with the Pentium III enhancements.

3. Performance Improvements
----------------------------------------
The overall performance of the 3D Graphics System in 
AutoCAD 2000 has been significantly improved in this 
update. Here are some specifics:

(a) 30-80% reduction in memory consumption.
(b) 60-90% improvement in using OpenGL acceleration.
(c) Improved performance in using the REFEDIT command
    in persistent shaded modes (please refer to the 
    AutoCAD Command Reference for detailed information 
    about the SHADEMODE command).
(d) Improved performance if you use the 3D Wireframe 
    or the other shademodes exclusively. 
(e) Improved performance in using the BLOCK and ADC 
    commands.

4. Bug Fixes

This update fixes some memory leaks and crashing bugs.

5. Applying the Update to non-English versions of AutoCAD 2000
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can install the Graphics Driver Update on the following non-English 
versions of AutoCAD 2000: Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, 
Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.  After 
installing the update, the 3D Graphics System Configuration dialog will appear 
in English.  If this is unacceptable, please do not install the update on any 
of these non-English versions.
