The agent is installed on network client machines to act as a remote agent for cross platform backup and restore support. The agent uses TCP/IP to communicate with the BrightStor ARCserve Backup server. This readme file provides you with the basic information you need to install and use the Client Agent for OpenVMS . ______________________________________________________________________ 2.0 Supported Platforms The Client Agent for OpenVMS supports the following platforms: * VAX 6.2, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 * ALPHA 6.2, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 8.2 ______________________________________________________________________ 2.1 Supported TCPIP Stacks The Client Agent for OpenVMS supports, at minimum, the following TCPIP stacks: * Compaq UCX 4.2 eco 3 (on Alpha) * Compaq UCX 3.3 eco 13 (on VAX) * Compaq TCPIP v5.0 * Process Software Multinet v4.1B (with patches) * Process Software TCPWARE 5.3 ______________________________________________________________________ 3.0 Installing the Agent for OpenVMS Before installing the agent, we recommend that you review the information in the Client Agents Guide. To install the agent, perform the following procedure: 1. Mount the cd as follows: mount /over=id 2. From a location containing at least 10 blocks, execute the following command: run cddevice:[openvms]bab_YYDDMM_SETUP_xxx.exe where xxx is one of the following: * ALPHA for alpha * VAX for vax The BAB_YYDDMM_SETUP_XXX.EXE file extracts a setup.com file and executes it. 3. You are prompted to identify a temporary area with at least 85000 blocks. The archive containing the save sets to be installed is decompressed into this area. If the location you specify does not have the required amount of disk space, you are prompted to specify a different location. 4. When the save sets have been decompressed, vmsinstal runs automatically. Follow the prompts. When installing the agent, see the Client Agents Guide for more information. 5. When the installation is complete, the agent starts automatically. ______________________________________________________________________ 4.0 Upgrading the Agent The Agent for OpenVMS does not have a mechanism for upgrading from an old version to a new version. You need to reinstall the Agent with the new version. To upgrade the agent, perform the following procedure: 1. Please stop the agent, if it is running, using the following command: @SYS$STARTUP:BAB$SHUTDOWN 2. Mount the cd as follows: mount /over=id 3. From a location containing at least 10 blocks, execute the following command: run cddevice:[VMS]BAB_YYDDMM_SETUP_XXX.exe where xxx is one of the following: * ALPHA for alpha * VAX for vax The BAB_YYDDMM_SETUP_XXX.EXE file extracts a setup.com file and executes it. 4. You are prompted to identify a temporary area with at least 85000 blocks. The archive containing the save sets to be installed is decompressed into this area. If the location you specify does not have the required amount of disk space, you are prompted to specify a different location. The upgrade procedure will empty out the area, used for decompressing the save sets, at the end of the upgrade procedure. 5. When the save sets have been decompressed, vmsinstal runs automatically. Follow the prompts. At one point install procedure will prompt with the following message: ***** This version is already installed ***** Do you want to continue? [Y]? Please respond with 'Y' to continue with upgrading the agent to the latest version. 6. When the upgrade is complete, the agent starts automatically. ______________________________________________________________________ 5.0 Configuring Compaq/UCX OpenVMS TCP/IP Services If performance is slow using the default stack configuration, set the send and receive quotas to the maximum.
