The following sections provide information about the fixes included in this
patch.
The following section provides information about fixes relating to the BrightStor
ARCserve Backup base product:
- [T2D2218], [T2D2233] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure
that system state backup operations on Windows 2000 domain controllers with
Active Directory logs at the root of any drive no longer fail on Windows NT.
- [QO54881] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that you
no longer receive the error "File header signature or stream signature is
invalid" when restoring or verifying data from certain backup sessions (a
backup session is a backup of a file system or database - backup jobs can
contain multiple sessions). Previously, data corruption problems occurred
during backups if, while the first session of a backup job was running, 1000
other backup sessions started and were completed. If a new backup session
started (session 1001) while session 1 was still running, this session would
be corrupted.
- [QO53877] Error messages are now properly reported during file backups when
I/O errors occur during the reading of files. When restoring files, the error
message "N3941 Skip file - Marked as invalid. (FILE=File Path Name>" is reported
in the job log file.
- [T369129] The BrightStor ARCserve Backup Database Engine has been enhanced
to generate messages indicating the reason for any shutdown.
- [T3EE025] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you
can modify backup schemes without changing the type of backup to be run.
- [T352041], [T16C283] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably reports accurate
library device information from the command line on Windows NT when two libraries
are connected to the same adapter.
- [T16C292] You can now reliably run backup jobs after making changes to group
configurations without needing to restart the Tape Engine. New group information
is now updated when you redefine device groups. This operation no longer requires
that you restart the Tape Engine. In addition, it helps backup jobs to span
tapes, crossing group boundaries.
- [T3B2006] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now allows you to set an execution
time that differs from the time originally set in a GFS rotation job.
- [T16C299] Group configuration information is no longer lost after the Tape
Engine is restarted.
- [T16C327] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now correctly reports warnings or errors
when you stop and restart the Tape Engine when using virtual libraries.
- [T3B2012] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that filters
set before jobs are modified are retained after the modifications have been
made. In addition, the manager no longer fails when you select the Source
Priority button for these jobs.
- [T1A5123] The BrightStor ARCserve Backup Device Manager now accurately displays
media status information for file system devices.
- [T1A5125] The Device Manager has been enhanced to ensure that it accurately
reports the amount of data backed up.
- [T367027] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that you
can configure Lotus Notes from the Backup Manager Alert Option.
- [T2D2195] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that jobs
start normally, and that you can stop the Job Engine service normally, after
you enable the Database Engine with debug levels greater than 2.
- [T2D2194] Rotation jobs using a single device group with 400 slots no longer
fail when these jobs enumerate the tapes.
- [T3B1004] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now properly displays the system state
in the Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP section when you select a
remote BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9 server as the default host server.
- [T2D2237] Selecting Job Detail for generic user entries in the GUI no longer
causes caloggerd to fail.
- [T367039] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that, for
a differential rotation scheme on a Windows host server, if you change the
backup method for a specific day, the Differential Modification Date is no
longer an available option. The option remains available on UNIX host servers.
- [T3B2019] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that local
server system state information is no longer overwritten when you merge backup
jobs to a different BrightStor ARCserve Backup system and then restore the
data to its original location.
- [T3D3014] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that Japanese
characters are no longer corrupted in the GUI.
- [T2D2174], [T36B079] Media pool information is no longer lost when you modify
rotation jobs.
- [T2D2177] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now allows you to run incremental backup
operations using wildcards (*) and your own naming conventions for tapes in
a media pool. Previously, although the first incremental backup would run
properly, the next incremental backup would not append to the tape and you
would be prompted for a blank tape.
- [T369069] The Backup Agent Options in the Restore Manager now accurately
reports the size of large SQL data files.
- [T2D2186] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that Job
Properties accurately reflect the size of the files for backup and restore
operations.
- [T2D2191] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that merge
operations no longer fail in error with the warning "E3853 Session was truncated."
- [T36B051] You can now reliably back up Macintosh services residing on UAM
volumes on Windows 2000 servers.
- [T2D2199] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably backs up local and remote
Windows 2000 files.
- [T369093] Domain user authentication no longer fails due to a port mapper
failure. Previously, if port 111 was unavailable, the portmapper would fail,
causing domain user authentication to fail.
- [T352048] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to allow administrators
to specify in the Restore Manager that permissions for files and folders should
not be restored.
- [T2D2210] When you use the English version of BrightStor ARCserve Backup
on a German operating system, you can now back up the X:\Dokumente und Einstellungen
folder without receiving a message indicating a sharing violation.
- [T2D2223] The Q option in the ca_devmgr –mount command now properly
executes a quick inventory of the slots.
- [T2D2222] When using the Tapetest –f format tape command, tape names
longer than 23 characters no longer generate random, nonsense characters at
the end of the tape name after the formatting operation is complete.
- [T2D2224] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that it
now properly uses upper case letters for WINNT in the path for each value
in the registry.
- [T3B1008] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you
no longer receive erroneous licensing errors related to the Tape Library Option
when you have not installed the option.
- [T16C309] For OnStreamADR with firmware 6.06, backup jobs no longer fail
in error with the message "E3719 Unable to write to media. EC=CARTRIDGE NOT
IN PLACE."
- [T369121] Full machine backup operations now properly prompt you for database
agent security credentials, and package those credentials in backup jobs.
- [T2D2228] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now allows you to assign slots to groups
originally configured without specific slot assignments and back up those
groups without causing the Tape Engine to fail.
- [T2D2231] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now properly spans to blank tapes for
tapecopy operations using the –c switch.

window.
- [T2D2252] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now properly searches for the last
sequence of tapes when you perform a tapecopy operation with the –c
–a switches enabled.
- [T352067] You can now define more than 8 virtual LANs in your system without
incurring a backup job failure.
- [T3D3003] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to allow you to restore
and merge all of the sessions on tapes properly.
- [T3F8008] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that you

ARCserve® Backup Client Agent for Windows NT.
- [QO47218] The BrightStor ARCserve Backup Message Engine now starts reliably
on multiprocessor systems.
- [QO49794] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that session
passwords are always properly encrypted.

qla12160 on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 computers.
- [T36B059] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to ensure that you
can use the ca_restore command without specifying destination parameters,
in both English and Japanese versions, without causing application errors.
- [T36B066] When backing up a node in a cluster, BrightStor ARCserve Backup
identifies the shared volumes not currently owned by that node, generates
a W3943 message for each volume, and marks the backup job as Incomplete. To
avoid this situation, under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCserveIT\BASE\Task
add the DWORD value SkipClusterVolCount and set it to 1. This allows BrightStor
ARCserve 2000 to skip cluster volumes no longer owned by the server and
still report the job as Successful. The default value, 0, directs BrightStor
ARCserve 2000 to report skipped cluster volumes not currently owned by the
server and mark such jobs as Incomplete.
- [T31A167] This patch includes updated device support. For a complete list
of supported devices, refer to the Certified Device List posted on the following
Web site http://esupport.ca.com/index.html?/public/storage/ascdls.asp.

For Windows 2000 (local and remote floppy method)
- Run the self-extracting file BAB901WP5DRE.exe and change
the destination folder to which you want to extract the files, or click
Unzip to extract to the default folder C:\BAB901WP5DR.
The file provides the following self-extracting executable and batch file:
- BAB901WRE.exe
- DRUpdateE.bat
- Copy the self-extracting file and the batch file to
a blank disk. Preserve the disk with the Boot diskettes.
- During the disaster recovery process, after the first reboot
(the first time the Disaster Recovery wizard screen appears), at the command
prompt, hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys, double-click the graphic on the
left hand side, and select Command Line.
- Enter cd DR to change the directory to the following:
c:\drboot.tmp\system32\dr
where c:\ is your system partition drive.
- Copy the executable and the batch file from the disk to the DR
folder.
- Run the batch file from the DR folder, as in the following example:
c:\drboot.tmp\system32\dr\DRUpdateE.bat
- In the pop-up window, unzip the file to the default location
c:\drboot.tmp\system32\dr\. You can change the drive letter if your
system partition is not on c:\. Close the window when the extraction is
complete.
- At the prompt, enter Exit to return to the Disaster Recovery
Wizard.
- Click Cancel. A pop-up dialog appears, asking if you want to
Exit BrightStor AB Disaster Recovery Wizard? Click Yes. Your machine automatically
restarts.
- Follow the normal Disaster Recovery procedure after restarting
your machine.
