1.0 Welcome

Welcome to BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Version 9.01 Patch 5 for Windows. This readme file contains issues fixed since the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9.01 Update. This file also provides you with information regarding installation considerations for this patch.

This patch is cumulative. Items provided by Patch 5 have been identified as separate from items carried forward from prior patches.

The following list provides the build numbers for each component as they have been updated from the initial release of this product to the release of this patch:

Note: The prerequisite for installing this patch is BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Version 9.01 (Build 2020)

2.0 Installation Considerations

The following sections provide information about the installation of this patch.

2.1 Local Installation

To install this patch locally:

  1. Run the self-extracting file BAB901WP5.exe.

  2. Specify whether to leave or delete the unpacked files after the patch operation is complete. If you choose to leave the unpacked files, you can change the destination folder to which to extract the source files or you can click Next to extract the files to the default folder C:\BAB901WP5. When the extraction is complete, setup automatically launches Patch package to start the installation. Click Next.

  3. Choose Local Install to apply the patch locally.

  4. Choose the components you want to install and click Next to continue applying the selected updates. By default, all available update packages are preselected. Packages with prerequisites cannot be selected individually. For example, Tape Library Option cannot be selected unless BrightStor ARCserve Backup Base component is selected.

  5. When the installation of the patch is complete, if you want to delete the unpacked files, the extracted source files can be deleted. If you leave the unpacked files, you can run the patch again later by launching MasterSetup.exe from the Install folder.

  6. The setup log file can be found in the system temp folder %Temp%\CASPsetup.log.

2.2 Silent Installation

To install this patch silently:

  1. Run the self-extracting file BAB901WP5.exe.

  2. Specify whether to leave or delete the unpacked files and specify a destination folder to which to extract the source files or click Next to extract to the default folder C:\BAB901WP5.

  3. When the extraction is complete, setup automatically launches the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9.01 Patch 5 package to start the installation. Click Cancel to exit from the setup.

  4. Modify the Install\setup.icf file in the folder by adding component names to the ProductList= key. For example, to apply the Base component Update, Tape Library Update, and Disaster Recovery Update, modify the setup.icf file as in the following example:
    [Install]
    ProductList=ARCserve, TLO, DRO

The following is the complete list of component names:

When you have added all of the necessary component keys, save the file.

  5. At the command prompt, change to the folder containing the extracted files. Run MasterSetup.exe under the Install folder using the parameter /i: and adding the path to the setup.icf file, as in the following example:
    C:\ BAB901W\Install\MasterSetup.exe /i:c:\temp\setup.icf

  6. In the setup log file, in the system temp folder %Temp%\CASPsetup.log, verify that all of the patch installations completed successfully. When running in silent mode, all reboot requests are logged in the log file. After performing a silent installation, check the log file for reboot requests.

  7. When the silent installation of the patch is completed, the extracted source files can be deleted.

2.3 Remote Installation

To install this patch remotely:

  1. Run the self-extracting file BAB901WP5.exe.

  2. Specify whether to leave or delete the unpacked files after the patch operation is completed. If you choose to leave the unpacked files, you can change the destination folder to which to extract the source files or you can click Next to extract to the default folder C:\BAB901WP5.

  3. When the extraction is complete, setup automatically launches the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9.01 Patch 5 package to start the installation. Click Next.

  4. Select Remote Install and continue.

  5. Enter the name of the computer in the Computer Name field or select one from the list, and click the Add button to log in to the selected server. You can repeat this process to install the patch on multiple servers. When you have logged in to all the servers, click Next to continue.

  6. The computers you selected for remote installation are listed on the screen. Double-click each of them to configure remote installation.

  7. The available patch components are listed for the target server. Choose the components to install and click Next to continue applying the selected patch. By default, all available update packages are preselected. Packages with prerequisites cannot be selected individually. For example, Disaster Recovery Option cannot be selected unless the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Base component is selected.

Repeat steps 6 and 7 for all selected servers.

  8. In the setup log file, in the system temp folder %Temp%\CASPsetup.log on the target machine, verify that all of the patch installations completed successfully and determine if the remote machine should be restarted.

  9. When the installation is complete, if you chose to delete the unpacked files, the extracted source files are deleted. If you chose to leave the unpacked files, you can run the patch again by launching MasterSetup.exe from the Install folder. When the remote installation of the patch is completed, the extracted source files can be deleted.
