Group Policy (GPO) Installation Fails When Assigned to a Computer Running Microsoft® Windows 2000 Operating System

This GPOa2k4sp1.mst file corrects an installation failure that occurs when you attempt to install AutoCAD® 2004 through a group policy object assigned to a computer running Microsoft® Windows 2000.

Description of Problem

Microsoft Windows 2000 uses the built-in system account for installing AutoCAD 2004 through a group policy assigned to a computer. As a result, AutoCAD 2004 cannot create the required directory structure for user profiles and roaming profiles.

When you attempt to install AutoCAD in the above scenario, an error message similar to the following is logged in the MSI log file:

Error 1606. Could not access network location Autodesk\AutoCAD 2004\R16\enu\.

Note: You can use the GPOa2k4sp1.mst file only when you install AutoCAD 2004 through a group policy object assigned to a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000.

Instructions

The following procedure assumes that you have already created an administrative image using the Network Installation wizard. If you need instructions for doing that, see the Network Administrator's Guide, which you can find on the AutoCAD 2004 CD or in the Help system.

To apply the GPOa2k4sp1.mst file and assign the updated deployment to computers

Note: To apply GPOa2k4sp1.mst, you must know how to create a new software installation package. You cannot apply this fix by modifying an existing package. If you need instructions for creating a software installation package, see "Use Group Policies to Install a Deployment" in the Network Administrator’s Guide.

  1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download the GPOa2k4sp1.mst file to the same location where you created the application distribution share point in the Network Installation wizard (for example: \\server123\Deployment\AdminImage).
  2. In Windows Active Directory, select the group policy object that you want to update with this fix. The Group Policy window is displayed.

Note: If you do not know how to select a group policy object, see Assign a Deployment to Computers in the "Use Group Policies to Install a Deployment" section of the Network Administrator’s Guide.

  3. In the Group Policy window, under Computer Configuration, click the plus sign (+) next to the Software Settings folder to expand it.
  4. Create a new installation package. To apply the fix, in the AutoCAD 2004 Properties dialog box, click the Modification tab during the creation of the package, and then click Add.

Note: If you attempt to modify an existing package, the Add button becomes unavailable. You must create a new software installation package to add the GPOa2k4sp1.mst. file.

  5. In the Open dialog box, select GPOa2k4sp1.mst, and then click Open.
  6. On the Modification tab, click Add again to select the transform package (.mst) file created by the Network Installation wizard. Then click Open.
  7. Continue creating the software installation package for the group policy object.

AutoCAD 2004 is assigned to all computers that are members of the organizational unit for which the group policy object has been created. The next time a computer in the organizational unit is restarted, AutoCAD will be installed and will be available for all users of the computer.
