Welcome to the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Client Agents and Enterprise Options CD Readme. This readme file contains information including minimum operating system and hardware requirements for the BrightStor ARCserve Backup components included on this CD. You can also find detailed information that explains known technical problems and workarounds, including any unique situations.
This service pack is cumulative, as is this readme. Information related specifically to Service Pack 3, Service Pack 2, and Service Pack 1 has been identified separately from information originally included in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 for the components included on this CD.
For information included in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 Service Pack 3, see the sections after the following heading: BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP3 Client Agents and Enterprise Options Readme.
For information included in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2, see the sections after the following heading: BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1 and SP2 Client Agents and Enterprise Options Readme.
For information included in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, see the sections after the following heading: BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 Client Agents and Enterprise Options Readme.
For information relating to all of the components of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP4, see the readme files included in the root directories for all platforms.
Note: After the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, information relating to the following agents was included in this readme because these agents are included in this CD:
The added information is identical to the information supplied for these agents by the readme files for each platform for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.
The following sections provide information originally released with the BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP4 Client Agents and Enterprise Options CD and included in this release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup.
For information originally included with BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP3 Client Agents and Enterprise Options, see BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP3 Client Agents and Enterprise Options.
For information originally included with BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1 and SP2 Client Agents and Enterprise Options, see BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1 and SP2 Client Agents and Enterprise Options.
For information originally included with BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 Client Agents and Enterprise Options, see BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 Client Agents and Enterprise Options.
Support for the following operating systems has been added to the BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP4 Client Agents and Enterprise Options:
For information about supported operating systems included with BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP3, see Operating System Support for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP3.
For information about supported operating systems included with BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1 and SP2, see Operating System Support for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1 and SP2 Client Agents and Enterprise Options.
For information about supported operating systems included with BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, see Operating System Support for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 Client Agents and Enterprise Options.
This release provides the following cross-platform Oracle RMAN enhancements:
Note: The BrightStor ARCserve Backup cross-platform Oracle RMAN enhancement should also work with the UNIX/Linux Agent for Oracle on the r11.5 SP3 level.
When browsing the Advanced Oracle Backup Options of the Agent for Oracle on UNIX/Linux servers in the Backup Manager, three new options are available for each Oracle database instance:
Note: For r11.5 SP4, BrightStor ARCserve Backup provides cross-platform support for Oracle RMAN. For detailed information about the operating system support for Oracle RMAN, see the Operating Systems Support for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP4 Client Agents and Enterprise Options section of this readme.
If this option is selected, the backup job fails when the number of copies is more than 1 and the job cannot gain access to enough devices to support them.
If this option is not selected, the backup job continues to run when the number of copies is more than 1 and the number of devices is insufficient. However, the number of copies is reduced.
This allows you to specify how long you want a backup job to wait if it is unable to access the number of devices it requires. After the time you specify expires, the job fails or it continues if you enabled the option “Continue backup even if some requested devices are not available” option.
If this option is selected and the job has at least one device assigned, the job continues to run.
If this option is not selected, the job fails when it cannot access enough devices within the time specified in the option Device availability waiting time (minutes).
Notes
This option is located on the miscellaneous tab of the Staging Policy dialog. When a backup job fails due to full disk condition or the threshold limit is reached, a makeup job will be created to back up the data directly to the final destination media.
For Oracle RMAN staging backup jobs, the makeup job will be created only when Retry Missed Targets option is selected and the makeup job will still be a disk staging job.
Note: For more detailed information about each of these new messages, see the Documentation Known Issues section of this readme.
o Error E3725: “Oracle RMAN agent prior to r11.5 SP3 is not supported.”
o Warning W3726: "Set the default device availability waiting time to <number> minutes."
o Warning W3727: "Reduce the number of copies to one."
o Warning W3728: "Reduce the number of channels to <channel number>."
o Error E3729: "Can not get enough media for Oracle RMAN agent!"
o Error E3730:"Can not get agent <agent server name> version. Oracle RMAN agent below R11.5 SP3 is not supported. Skip the RMAN agent."
o Error E3906: "Oracle RMAN agent <agent server name> below R11.5 SP3 is not supported! Skip the RMAN agent."
ca_auth [-cahost BABhost] -equiv add <oracle user> <OracleHostName> caroot [caroot_username] [caroot_password]
After running this command on the server side, the following error still appears in the activity log during a backup job:
BrightStor ARCserve Backup server on <server IP address> failed to authenticate user oracle. Please create a caroot equivalency using ca_auth.
If this error is generated, you need to use the ca_auth utility to add an equivalence for the current user.
The following is an example of the ca_auth command you need to run on the Oracle agent server to add a “caroot” equivalence for user “oracle” on Oracle agent server “abc123”:
[root@abc123 BABoraagt]# ./ca_auth -cahost babserver -equiv add oracle abc123 caroot caroot caroot_password [root@abc123 BABoraagt]# ./ca_auth -cahost babserver -equiv getequiv oracle abc123 Equivalent BrightStor user for oracle@abc123:caroot

Each PDF guide in a documentation set has a unique Document ID (DID) that appears on the title page of the guide. The DID uses the first six characters to identify the guide, a hyphen, then two characters at the end to identify the edition and language in which it is written. For example, D01165-2E identifies the second edition of the English version of the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agents Guide. If a third edition of this guide is published, the DID is incremented to D01165-3E. The DID is used without the hyphen for the .PDF file on the product media and on SupportConnect as shown in Filename column of the following table.
The DIDs and filenames for the component guides included on this CD are:
Guide Name | DID | Filename |
---|---|---|
BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agents Guide | D01165-2E | D011652E.PDF |
BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows Agent for Oracle Guide | D01175-2E | D011752E.PDF |
