file provides information required to install and use BrightStor ARCserve Backup
r11.1 SP2. This file can help you with your implementation of the product and
provides information on contacting Customer Support.
This service pack is cumulative. Fixes provided by this service pack have
been identified separately from fixes carried forward from prior service packs.
All items in the following sections beginning with [Txxxxxx], where xxxxxx is
the test fix number, or [Qxxxxxx], where xxxxxx is the published fix number, are
included in this update. If you received a fix not listed in any of the
following sections, contact Customer Support to determine how the fix can be
reapplied.
The following sections provide information regarding fixes included in this
service pack.
The following fixes relating to the BrightStor ARCserve Backup base product
have been included in this service pack:
- [T16C582] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to detect HP C7145
libraries, allowing you to properly configure the libraries.
- [T36B200] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that
changes to jobs backing up UNIX machines using the Client Agent are properly
saved.
- [T36B204] You can now properly back up servers with names containing "_IP"
without failing and generating the message "E3150 Unable to connect to network
drive."
- [T46B066] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to correct the
following decryption issues:
- You can now properly restore Oracle databases backed up with local file
system drives with global encryption
- You can now properly back up file system drives (for example, C) from
one server and database agents from another node using global encryption and
restore the database agent sessions without generating the error "E3482
Failed to decrypt data."
- You can now restore data backed up using the Client Agent for Windows
without generating the errors "AE0322 Failed to initiate the encryption
library. Job aborted," and "E3482 Failed to decrypt data (EC27)."
Previously, if you restored this data using database agents, these errors
would be generated.
- You can now properly restore Linux data and preserve attributes.
Previously, random, nonsense characters were restored with the data and the
attributes were not preserved.
- [T146365] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that all
reports are now properly created after you run MMO vault cycles.
- [T146366] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now retains the names of media pools
entered on the Destination tab after jobs are modified and the screen is
refreshed.
- [T146367] You can now reliably put jobs in the Job Queue on Hold without
generating errors or causing the job to fail.
- [T146368] BrightStor ARCserve Backup no longer automatically updates the
database if a tape's barcode does not match the internal serial number of the
tape and valid database records exist for both the barcode and the internal
serial number.
- [T146371] The entry "Found Non-Cheyenne Tape" in the debug tape log has
been changed to "Found Non-ARCserve Tape."
- [T146376] You can now use the Advanced Type in the Diagnostics Wizard
without generating the error "Load BrightStor job queue failed, only collect
local machine information."
- [T146377] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you
no longer erroneously receive the message "E3831 Unable to find any media that
can be used in this job" when valid media are available in the tape group.
- [T146378] Tapes are now properly identified in the Restore by Session view
when using the default VLDB database.
- [T146381] You can now manually format media directly to the scratch sets
of media pools. To do so, you must create the DWORD registry value
FormatToScratch under the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\Database
- [T16C531] The Tape Engine no longer fails randomly.
- [T16C540] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that
backup jobs now reliably back up all necessary data, including folders with
the character *.
- [T16C546] You can now reliably format blank tapes.
- [T16C565] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that file
system devices (and groups that contain them) are no longer lost after you
reboot your system. To implement this fix, add the DWORD value BootDelay to
the following key and set it to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ComputerAssociates\base\tapeengine\CHANGER_CFG
- [T1A5241] The Domain Server service now starts reliably even when your
Windows system has more than 200 IP addresses configured.
- [T1A5263] Tape devices are now properly identified as shared on
distributed servers in Dynamic Device Sharing (DDS) environments.
- [T1A5269] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now properly executes the command
ca_devmgr force erase 3 0 0.
- [T245118] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to allow you to
submit restore jobs from the command line without identifying the destination
hostname.
- [T245119] The Backup Manager now properly and reliably displays Media
Pools in the correct field on the Destination tab when you load backup job
scripts to the Backup Manager.
- [T245122] System State backup jobs no longer erroneously generate the
following error and warning when long Active Directory DNS names are set and
NTFRS replica root values are set with the prefix \\?\:
- W3301 Unable to find directory. (DIR=\, EC=The filename, directory name,
or volume label syntax is incorrect.)
- E3322 Unexpected return from find first file. Unable backup files after
(FILE=\\?\c:\windows\sysvol\domain\*.*, EC=The network path was not found.)
- [T245124] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that
Pre/Post commands for Preferred Shares/Machines nodes, set in the Pre/Post
Option dialog, are saved when you save or run these jobs and that they execute
properly.
- [T245126] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you
must enter a correct session password to restore sessions backed up using the
Client Agent for Windows with the session password option specified.
- [T245129] The registry value Every reboot,
SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\SNMP, is no longer
inserted in the following key path after every reboot:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters\ExtensionAgents
- [T245135] You can now submit backup jobs to blank File System Device media
with the Overwrite option enabled without generating errors.
- [T245158] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the
BrightStorMgr.exe process now stops properly when you click the close button
in the upper right-hand corner to close the Manager GUI.
- [T245170] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably backs up catalog.wci
directories even when the catalog.wci directory is empty or has no changed
files to back up (in differential backup jobs) and the Estimate File Size
option is enabled.
- [T245178] When a restore job cannot replace a file, it creates either an
ACT$xxxx file or a SYT$xxxx file in the same directory as the file that could
not be replaced. Previously, if the file was under WINDOWS\System32\CatRoot,
the digital signature of the driver would sometimes disappear after you
rebooted the machine and an error indicating that the ACT$xxxx file could not
be found would be recorded in the dberr.log. BrightStor ARCserve Backup now
ensures that digital signatures no longer disappear after you reboot.
- [T245181] You can now restore backed up folders from shared disks to
non-shared disks without modifying the disk signature of the non-shared disk.
- [T245184] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that,
after you reboot your system (if files were active and could not be replaced
while a full restore job was running), restored files now reflect the correct
timestamps, not the time the restore job ran.
- [T2AC192] The ca_qmgr command now properly reschedules jobs in the Sydney,
Australia time zone when Daylight Savings Time is enabled on the machine.
- [T2AC197] You can now reliably restore sessions with more than 100 GB of
data.
- [T2AC198] After you run multiplexing jobs and delete the subjobs from the
job queue, you can no longer highlight the blank line on which the subjobs
were displayed.
- [T2D2422] You can now submit ca_restore jobs to restore multiple files in
a single job without specifying tape sessions.
- [T2D2444] You can now modify a job's execution time without affecting the
execution time for all subsequent jobs.
- [T2D2445] The Job Detail log now displays Windows System Options (rather
than Windows 2000 Options) on systems with Windows versions other than Windows
2000 installed.
- [T2D2462] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that
backup jobs with Pre/Post commands set to run on specific nodes before the
backup job begins are now skipped without error if the command does not return
the specified exit code to begin the backup job, and the backup job continues
with the remaining nodes. Previously, the entire backup job would fail under
these circumstances.
- [T2D2466] You can now configure Alert emails and click the Help button
without causing the Manager GUI to crash on Windows 2003 machines.
- [T2D2468] You can now reliably restore BrightStor ARCserve Backup for
Laptops & Desktops data to alternate locations on BrightStor ARCserve
Backup servers.
- [T2D2469] You can now reliably configure Alerts on Windows 2003 machines.

Backup in an NEC Cluster Server environment, see the attached document.
- [T367172] Columns are automatically sorted in the Job Status or Job Queue
list views.
- [T367173] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that prune
jobs no longer truncate Microsoft SQL Server log files and that they work
properly according to the backup policy. To enable this fix, add the DWORD
registry value DisableDumpTransaction under \\BrightStor ARCserve
Backup\Base\Database\mssql directory and set it to 1.
- [T367177] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that
backup jobs on cluster servers no longer split into two jobs, and the correct
status is reported for the single job.
- [T367182] The cabatch command now reliably recognizes specified user names
and passwords identified in job scripts with Pre/Post commands specified.
- [T36A231] The ca_restore command no longer fails with the error "Failed to
connect to Database" in environments using Microsoft SQL as the alternate
BrightStor ARCserve Backup database if you have configured the Database Engine
Service to log in to the SQL database server with an account with no rights to
the SQL database server.
- [T36A242] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to allow you to use
passwords longer than 20 characters.
- [T36A260] You can now reliably run multistriping backup jobs with master
jobs with two stripe databases followed by one stripe databases when the third
device has its only tape or File System Device in the wrong media pool.
- [T36A261] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now retains the Distinguish Media by
Name Only option for backup jobs even after the jobs are modified.
- [T36A262] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to start the
BrightStor ARCserve Backup services properly without displaying the error
message "BrightStor RPC services failed to initialize since an active
Portmapper was not detected on this machine. Please make the NT service 'CA
Remote Procedure Call Server' as 'automatic' if it is not so" in the
Application log.
- [T36B198] Parent directories are now properly deleted when backing up
source files on local servers when you have the Delete Files after backup
option enabled.
- [T3D3064] The BrightStor.log file now reliably records all messages.
- [T3F8093] When you issue the command ca_scan cahost without using an
additional parameter, BrightStor ARCserve Backup now correctly prompts you
with a message that it requires an argument.
- [T46B017] Multistreaming rotation backup sub-jobs now run properly even if
they must run on the subsequent day.
- [T46B018] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that all
tape sequences of tapes in the save set are properly displayed.
- [T46B020] BrightStor ARCserve Backup no longer erroneously moves extra
tapes from the save set to the scratch set when you use Microsoft SQL Server
as the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database.
- [T46B024] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you
no longer receive the following warnings when you back up the system state of
Windows 2003 servers with registry sizes greater than 512 KB:
- W3422 Unable to save the registry key. (KEY=SYSTEM, EC=NO SYSTEM
RESOURCES)
- W3404 Unable to open file. (FILE=C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM,
EC=SHARING VIOLATION)
- [T46B026] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to remove an
intermittent error handling problem that caused backup jobs to fail at the end
of nodes as the job cleaned up the memory used.
- [T46B028] The Device Manager now properly retains media pool information
for tapes after regular inventories, and backup jobs using media pools now
reliably use these tapes when necessary. In addition, the case of characters
in tape names is now retained after inventories.
- [T46B035] Multiplexing master jobs now properly back up disaster recovery
information and the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database. Previously, these
jobs attempted to back up the System State and generated the errors "W3422
Unable to save registry (key=; EC=required privileges are not held by the
user" and "W3404 Unable to open file (name=c:\winnt\system32\system or config;
EC=Sharing Violation)."
- [T46B036] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the
Job Engine no longer fails, and services start properly, when more than 30 IP
addresses are available.
- [T46B039] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably runs backup jobs
successfully even when Pre-job commands return the exit code -1.
- [T46B041] If you set job-level Pre/Post commands for a backup job,
specifying that the job should run only if a particular exit code is received
for the pre-command, the job now runs only if the specified exit code is
returned. If the exit code is not received, the job fails.
- [T46B045] The Job Log now correctly reflects the elapsed Session Summary
time for Client Agent for NetWare backup jobs.
- [T46B047] Client Agent for Windows authentication failure error messages
sent to the Event Viewer from the Server Admin is now logged with the proper
event ID when you select the option Enable Messaging Logging to Windows Event
Viewer.
- [T46B049] You can now reliably run backup jobs where NDS is the only
source and multiplexing is enabled. Previously, such jobs failed.
- [T2D2395] You can now properly back up DHCP databases locally or remotely
on Windows 2003 servers without generating a message in the activity log
indicating that the dhcp.mdb file was not found.
- [T36A235] If you use Microsoft SQL Server as the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup database, media pool definitions are no longer reset to zero when you
submit rotation jobs.
- [T245141] The message "TA: A drive inside the library has been taken
offline" no longer appears in the log file when drives are being cleaned on HP
C5713A (40x6 AL), HP DAT72x6 AL, and HP C1557A (24x6 AL) devices.
- [T1A5258] Backup jobs no longer fail incorrectly with the error "E3855
Unable to position media." Previously, after applying fix QO64863, backup jobs
failed incorrectly with this error.
- [T3D3058] The BrightStor ARCserve Backup Agent Management GUI now properly
displays job details from the log file for computers with names of three
characters or fewer.
- [T2D2399] When you back up DHCP databases (dhcp.mdb), you no longer
receive the message "AW0004 Failed to open database file. Rc=3 system cannot
find the path specified."
- [T1A5246] After applying this fix, you can create multiplexing backup jobs
that can be restored using an IBM Ultrium tape drive. Note: You cannot restore
backup jobs created before you applied the fix.

failed.
- [T16C508] [T16C549] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure
that backup jobs with the Append option no longer overwrite valid data on
tapes when they follow successful restore jobs. This previously caused
restores of particular sessions to fail with the error "E3802 Invalid File
Header Signature."
- [T16C519] You can now span and format tapes on Exabyte VXA-2 tape drives
without generating "E6300 WINNT SCSI port error" messages in the
BrightStor.log file.
- [T16C520] [T16C542] Backup jobs no longer fail incorrectly with the error
"E3855 Unable to position media" on ECRIX VXA-1, ECRIX VXA-1a, EXABYTE VAX-1,
and EXABYTE VAX-1A tape drives.
- [T16C526] Restore jobs no longer incorrectly generate the error message
"Please insert second tape" for backup jobs that did not span tapes.
- [QO64250/T30D040] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to support
new devices. For the most current Certified Device list, visit http://supportconnect.ca.com/.
In addition, BrightStor ARCserve Backup tape engine components have been
enhanced to ensure that, if an uncertified device is detected, BrightStor
ARCserve Backup stops and generates a message notifying you of the problem.
The following two error messages have been added to notify you of the presence
of unsupported hardware:
- "E6918: An un-certified/un-supported device has been detected! Check the
Computer Associates technical support website for more information"
If an uncertified Tape Drive is detected, this error appears on the
CSLOADER screen and in the tape$svr.log to help you to avoid using a device
with incorrect operating characteristics that can cause data integrity
issues.
- "E6920: A conflicting device driver [XXXXXXXX.CDM] was detected! Please
unload and rename the driver to prevent it from loading upon reboot!"
This error notifies you of driver conflict to help avoid the data
integrity issues that device control contention can cause. The BrightStor
ARCserve Backup drivers (CANWPA.CDM and CHEYFC.CDM) interact with tape
devices attached to the NetWare server. NetWare may also load Novell- or
OEM-supplied CDM drivers, particularly if the tape device was attached to
the system when the operating system was installed.
If either of these errors is generated, the Tapesvr engine stops
initializing and unloads. If both certified and uncertified devices are
attached to the system, you can add the following entry to the
x:\ARCserve\NLM\Tapesvr.cfg file to allow Tapesvr to load:
[CONFIG]
UnsupportedDeviceOverride=ENABLED
Important! This switch is provided to allow you to use other
certified devices attached to the system. Do not add it to use unsupported
devices.
- [T36A240] Successful backup operations are properly identified with the
correct message "Processo Completato Correttamente" in the Italian version of
BrightStor ARCserve Backup.
- [T245189] You can now correctly use Print Preview for reports when the
Manager GUI is remote from the server in Japanese, Dutch, Danish, Simplified
Chinese, and Traditional Chinese language versions of BrightStor ARCserve
Backup.

cabatch command.
- [T245174] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you
can open Event logs that were restored to different locations using the Client
Agent.
- [T245202] You can now correctly restore folders using the Client Agent
without truncating folder names containing the $ character when you enable the
Create entire path from the root option.

The following fixes relating to the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Storage Area
Network (SAN) Option have been included in this service pack:
- [T16C563] You can now configure standalone tape libraries on distributed
servers in SAN environments when the standalone tape library is connected to
one HBA and a shared library connected to another HBA on the same server. To
enable this fix, perform the following procedure:
- In the registry editor, add the following key based on the board number:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\TapeEngine\Scsi#
- Under this key, create the DWORD value Shared and set it to 0 to specify
Not Shared.
- [T16C516] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to remove the 23
character limitation from the user file in SAN configurations.
- [T16C518] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to add a lively
ping to the RPC connections embedded in the job handles between primary
servers and distributed servers in SAN environments where the primary and
distributed servers are on different sides of a firewall. This prevents backup
jobs from distributed servers from failing because of RPC communication
problems. To enable this ping, on the distributed server, add the DWORD value
KeepAlivePing to the following key and set the value to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\base\tapeengine\CONFIG
- [T16C525] SAN configurations are now reliably retained after you reopen
the GUI.
- [T16C530] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you
can now correctly and properly run several multistreaming jobs that share the
same device group from different servers.
- [T16C532] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to allow you add a
registry key to display physical node names and filter out virtual node names
in cluster environments without failover enabled. To do so, add the following
key to the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\ Base\Tapeengine\DisplayPhysicalNodes

DoorShutInit in the following key and set it to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStorARCserve Backup\Base\TapeEngine\CHANGER_CFG
- [T16C538] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that HP
SSL1016 changers now perform automatic inventories after tapes are added or
removed from changers when the DoorShutInit registry setting has been enabled.
To enable this fix, after applying this patch, add the DWORD value
DoorShutInit under the following key and set it to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStorARCserve Backup\Base\TapeEngine\CHANGER_CFG
- [T16C523] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that ADIC
FastStor and HP SSL1016 libraries no longer perform full inventories for all
slots when one tape is imported or exported.
The following fixes relating to the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup NDMP NAS
Option have been included in this service pack:
- [T1A5271] You can now reliably run multiple jobs simultaneously on EMC

backup jobs no longer fail with the error "E8511 Failed to connect with
client agent" during file estimation.
- [T245079] The restore query now consistently matches filenames of files in
NAS volumes that were backed up with the NDMP NAS Option, even when patterns
include wildcards and contain certain Japanese Shift JIS characters that
include 0x5C.
- [T16C537] You can now upgrade Ontap from 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 without causing
spanning problems and generating errors when backing up NetApp NAS servers.
- [T16C517] BrightStor ARCserve Backup no longer changes IBM Ultrium-TD2
tape drives to IBM Ultrium-TD1 tape drives after the Tape Engine starts and
now properly recognizes LTO-II tapes (which hold 400 GB of data) as different
from LTO-I tapes (which hold 100 GB of data) for tape libraries attached to
Network Appliance filers.
- [T1A5288] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you

run as scheduled when multiple GFS rotation jobs are scheduled to back up to a
specific RAID 1 device.
- [T16C547] You can now reliably submit RAID jobs from distributed servers
in SAN environments with StorageTek L700 and LTO IBM Ultrium drives on QLogic
Fibre Controllers. Previously, these jobs failed with the error "E6300 NT SCSI
Port Error."
- [T146374] During GFS rotation backup jobs using the RAID option, new tapes
(tapes that have not been used before) are now properly formatted with
Barcodes (Serial Numbers) when the database is updated.
The following sections provide fixes and information originally released with
BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 for Windows SP1 and included in this release of
BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 for Windows SP2.
The following sections provide information to consider when installing
BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 for Windows SP1.
If you are using the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup
Disaster Recovery Option Windows 2000 Floppy-based method, after you apply the
upgrade patch, the Create Boot Kit Wizard asks for two additional disks to
create Disaster Recovery Patch Disks. Label these disks Disaster Recovery Patch
Disk 1 and Disaster Recovery Patch Disk 2.
Note: The Update Machine-specific Disk procedure is not supported on
Windows 2000. Use the Create Boot Disks Option in the Create Boot Kit Wizard to
update your Machine-specific Disk.
After you apply the upgrade patch and create the required Disaster Recovery
Patch Disks, you must perform the following procedure during the disaster
recovery process:
- After the first reboot (the first time the Disaster Recovery wizard
appears), the Disaster Recovery wizard prompts you to insert the
Machine-specific Disk. You are then prompted to insert Disaster Recovery Patch
Disk 1 and Disaster Recovery Patch Disk 2. The wizard automatically reboots
after you apply all of the Disaster Recovery Patch Disks.
- Follow the normal disaster recovery procedure after you restart your
machine.
If you are using the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Disaster Recovery Option on
Windows XP or Windows 2003, after you upgrade the backup server to BrightStor
ARCserve Backup r11.1, you must perform the following procedure:
- Download the BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 Update Patch and extract the
.CAZ to a temporary folder.
- The Extract process includes an ISO image. Burn this ISO image to a CD.
- During disaster recovery, when you are prompted to insert the BrightStor
ARCserve Backup product CD, insert the CD you burned and proceed with the
normal recovery process.
The following section provides general information to consider when using
BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows.
BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to include support for SnapLock,
to provide non-erasable backups using limited WORM functionality on disk from
Network Appliance. SnapLock locks files on Network Appliance filers for a
specific period of time. Once locked, the file cannot be deleted until the lock
period expires.
Enable SnapLock from the Advanced tab of the Global Options dialog and
specify the retention period on disk. The retention period is calculated from
the time you submit the job.
You can change the values each time a job is submitted.
The following general considerations apply when using SnapLock on Network
Appliance:
- You must have a Network Appliance filer with, at minimum, ONTAP Release
7.0 RC3 to use BrightStor ARCserve Backup to SnapLock backed up sessions on
disk.
- SnapLock is not supported for rotation jobs or GFS rotation jobs. You
cannot submit rotation or GFS rotation jobs with SnapLock.
- SnapLock is not supported for multiplexing jobs.
- To use SnapLock, the final destination for your job must be a file system
device (the SnapLock volume for NAS filers).
- If any sessions on a file system device are locked by SnapLock, you cannot
format or erase the file system device.
- BrightStor ARCserve Backup provides a command line tool to purge sessions
locked by SnapLock when the retention period passes. You can create a
repeating generic job to invoke this command line tool to automate session
deletion from the disk and reclaim disk space from expired sessions.
- Use a command line tool to purge sessions from file system devices. The
tool cannot identify whether the session is locked by SnapLock. If the purge
is NOT successful, either the session is locked by SnapLock or an error has
occurred. Check the Activity log for information about the file system device,
the session number purged, and whether the purge was successful.
- If you have difficulty erasing or formatting file system devices with
expired SnapLock sessions from the GUI, refresh the GUI.
Currently, the execution time of a job is dependent upon the time zone in
which the machine is configured to run. For example, if BrightStor ARCserve
Backup is installed on a machine configured to run in the Eastern Time zone and
a job is submitted to run at 10 p.m., the job runs at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. If
the Time zone of the machine is changed to Atlantic Time, the job actually runs
at 11 p.m. local time (10 p.m. Eastern Time) making it appear that the time of
execution has changed when the time zone has changed.
You can now configure BrightStor ARCserve Backup to accept modification of
the time zone of the machine on which it is installed without affecting the
execution time of jobs. If a job is submitted to run at 10 p.m., the job runs at
10 p.m. machine time, regardless of the time zone. The actual execution time for
the job remains constant as the machine changes time zones.
- To configure BrightStor ARCserve Backup to work in Time Zone-independent
mode, from the command line, in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup home folder,
run the following command:
ca_qmgr tzmode 1
- To configure BrightStor ARCserve Backup to work in Time Zone-dependent
mode, from the command line, in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup home folder,
run the following command:
ca_qmgr tzmode 0
