BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops includes a BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops iSponsor (Information Sponsor), based on iGateway technology, to enable BrightStor® Portal integration. If you plan to use this iSponsor to report information to BrightStor Portal, you should install iGateway before starting the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops Server installation.
To install the iGateway, issue the following command from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops installation CD:
COMMON\iGateway\iGateway_21_win32.exe
If you are upgrading your installation from BrightStor Mobile Backup 4.0 to BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops Release r11.1, you must upgrade the iGateway to the version included on the installation CD. You can perform this upgrade by calling the iGateway installation program, before or after you upgrade the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops installation.
Prior to using the installation executable to modify, repair or remove, you need to stop the iGateway service if you used the BrightStor Portal.
If you did not use the default folder to install the BrightStor Mobile Backup Admin GUI and you upgrade to the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops Server Explorer, the Summary Screen displays the default installation folder. The installation is completed, however, to the folder you designated.
The following sections describe known technical problems and workarounds relating to BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops.
If you have installed the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops server without the Server Explorer and you later try to modify this installation to include the Server Explorer using Add/Remove Programs, the attempt fails with an internal error. The workaround is to install the Server Explorer using the setup from the installation CD directly.
If a BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops client has backed up files to the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops server, and those files have been migrated to tape (using BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup) according to the Data Growth Settings, an attempt on the part of the user to restore those files produces a message that the files will be transferred to the client at a later time. Because the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops client does not check for the missing files automatically, the files will not be transferred to the client until the next connect to the server after the files have been retrieved (during the daily connect to the server, the next backup, or the next restore).
If a BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops client has successfully backed up data to the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops server and, using a Data Growth Job, the server has migrated some of the client's files to tape (using BrightStor ARCserve Backup), in the event that the client has serious problems and wants to "Restore from Server" during a reinstall, we recommend that the Administrator first restore all migrated files of this BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops client from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup tapes through the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops Server Explorer.
If you install the Server Explorer to a path with a special character in it, reports cannot run.
If you rename folders or move folders into a directory that is part of a backup set definition, those folders are not backed up. If you change a file in such a directory, however, the files are backed up. If you want to add existing directories to your backup set, change the backup set definition or copy those directories to an existing directory that is backed up instead of moving them.
When you create or move a user, the user appears in the Tree View with default icons and without properties. This minimizes the number of refreshes and collapses of the Tree View. To see the properties, select the new or moved user.
If you receive this privilege error message, enable the Act as part of the operating system option in the User Rights Assignment settings. To do this, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Local Security Policy, Local Policies, and then User Rights Assignment. This is for Windows 2000 Professional and Windows NT Workstation 4.0 users only. You can set this policy in Windows NT with the user manager tool.
If you backup files larger than 1000 KB using the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops client, the data growth migration job may display as "Crashed" on the BrightStor ARCserve Backup server. Try to restore the files. This may only be a display issue.
If a file name contains special characters that are not part of the operating system character set, BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops cannot back it up.
There is a path length limitation for files. The file path cannot exceed 255 characters. If a file's path name goes over 255 characters, you will not be able to back it up.
