READ ME Citrix ICA 32-bit Windows Client (ICA Win32 Client) Version: 6.0 August 2000 This document contains last-minute information on the ICA Win32 Client. For more information about the ICA Win32 Client, refer to the Citrix ICA Client Administrator’s Guide for the ICA Win32 Client, available in an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file (ica32.pdf). The file is in the \DOC directory on the Citrix ICA Client CD. Use the Adobe Acrobat Reader or Exchange program to view PDF files. You can download Acrobat Reader for free from Adobe’s Web site at http://www.adobe.com. ______________________ System Requirements: The ICA 32-bit Windows Client supports the following platforms: Windows 2000 Windows 98 Windows 95 Windows NT 4.0 Windows NT 3.51 This release of the ICA Win32 Client includes the following new features: 1. TCP/IP+HTTP server location allows you to locate Citrix servers across a firewall. 2. SpeedScreen Latency Reduction enhances user experience on slower network connections. 3. Multiple Monitor Support - The Citrix ICA Win32 Client supports multiple monitors connected to a single computer (see "Citrix ICA Client for Windows 32-bit platforms, Multiple Monitor Support" below for limitations). 4. Pass-through authentication provides the ability to pass the user’s desktop password to the server, eliminating the need for multiple system and application authentications. 5. Panning and Scaling - Panning provides scroll bars that allow you to scroll an ICA session image configured at a higher resolution than your local client desktop. Scaling provides controls that enable you to shrink an ICA session image to fit your desktop. _______________________ Limitations and known issues for this release: 1. If you enable single sign-on on the ICA Win32 Client, auto client update is disabled. 2. When running an ICA session on a computer with multiple monitors running at different color depths, moving the ICA session window between monitors will corrupt the display. If you want to move ICA sessions between monitors, you must set all monitors to the same color depth. 4. If you install a Web browser after installing the ICA Client, you must reinstall the ICA Client. The Web client component needs to be registered with the browser so that when you select an ICA file in an HTML file, the browser knows what to run to invoke the ICA file. See "Using the ICA Win32 Client as a Web Client" later in this document for more information on the Web client component. ________________ Citrix ICA Client for Windows 32-bit platforms, Multiple Monitor Support Previous releases of Citrix ICA client for Windows 32-bit platforms did not support multimonitor configurations. This release introduces more support for multimonitor and large virtual monitor configurations. This support is effective only when connecting to MetaFrame 1.8 Feature Release 1 servers. If your client operating system with video hardware and video drivers provides multimonitor support with the Windows Task Bar on the primary (left) monitor (Windows 98 and Windows 2000 mode of multiple monitor support), there are restrictions in the level of support when using the client configured with "seamless" windows, but full support is available in non-seamless mode if all monitors are configured with the same color depth. Multple monitor support in seamless windows mode * Some applications, when run on the secondary monitor, may display elements incorrectly on the primary monitor (for example, pop-up windows, message boxes and similar windows). * Primary monitor must be configured to be the top-left monitor in multi-monitor configuration. * Microsoft Office 2000 menus will appear on the primary monitor only. * If the window is configured to move via host (using seamless compatibility flags), it will be bound to the primary monitor. * Security desktop windows (like Windows NT security dialog) are not centered, and may appear in the middle of the virtual desktop. * Some proprietary video drivers that are manipulating windows positions and size may not work properly with seamless windows on multi-monitor systems. Desktop mode (non-seamless) There is full support if all monitors must be configured with the same color depth. If your client operating system with video hardware and video drivers supports multimonitors by simulating a large virtual monitor (a configuration common on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0), seamless mode and the non-seamless "Desktop" mode operate correctly. If the Windows Task Bar is across the bottom of both the principal (left) and secondary (right) monitors, this mode is in effect. Compatible Hardware Configurations To enable multimonitor, support the system must have: * Multiple PCI video boards, compatible with the Citrix ICA Client on the appropriate Windows platform or * A special multimonitor video board, such as Matrox G400, compatible with the Citrix ICA client on the appropriate Windows platform Tested Configurations The following hardware configurations have been tested with multimonitor support. Note: It is recommended that these be tested in your own hardware configuration to determine if they work for your specific machine configuration. * On Windows 98, Matrox G400 is fully supported as a Windows 2000/Windows 98-style multiple monitor. On Windows 2000, G400 works in a Windows NT 4.0/Windows 95-style multiple monitor mode. * In both Windows 2000 and Windows 98, Matrox G200 PCI (multiple cards installed) is fully supported as a Windows 2000/Windows 98-style multiple monitor. * Windows 98 supports a wide variety of PCI video boards, including many models from ATI and Cirrus Logic, which work with the Citrix ICA Client in multiple monitor configuration. ______________ Using the ICA Win32 Client as a Web Client You can now use the ICA Win32 Client to launch or embed applications in a Web page. This method of deployment and use allows you to run applications from a Web page with the full range of ICA Win32 Client functionality. Prior to this release, Citrix Web computing required the user to download either the ActiveX component or the Netscape Plug-in. Now, the ICA Win32 Client can be used to replace these components in your Web computing environment. For detailed information on Citrix Web computing concepts, see The Citrix ICA Web Client Admnistrator's Guide, available for download at http://www.citrix.com/services/productdocs.asp. For information on creating HTML files that contain published applications, see your Citrix server documentation and the online help for the Citrix Management Console. To use the ICA32 Client as a Web Client 1. Copy the file "Ica32.exe" to your Web server. This file is located on the Citrix ICA Client CD in the following directory: \ICAWEB\\ica32\ica32.exe. 2. Publish an application. 3. Create an HTML page using the Create HTML File wizard on your server. 4. Open the HTML file in a text editor and edit the client type parameter to include the full path to ica32.exe file. This parameter calls the specified ICA Client that is then used to run the published application. For example: To embed an application for use on Internet Explorer, add the full path to the file ica32.exe to the CODEBASE line in your object tag: --------------------------------------------------------- To embed an application for use on Netscape Navigator 1. Set up a download page for the application. You can set up this page using Web install from the \Webinst directory of your NFuse 1.5 CD. See the readme.txt in the \Webinst directory for detailed instructions on using Web install. 2. Add the full path to the file ica32.exe to the var plugRefLoc line in your embed tag: content for browsers that do not support plug-ins _______________ Pubs errata When you are configuring TCP/IP server location on the ICA Client, the default port number is 80.
