INTEL ULTRA ATA STORAGE DRIVER PACKAGE CONTENTS ******************************************************************************* - Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver for Windows NT 4.0 INTELATA.SYS INTELATA.INF - This README file README.TXT ******************************************************************************* * 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ******************************************************************************* 1. Supported Intel chipsets: Intel 810 and 820, 840 Chipsets Intel 440LX, 440EX, 440LX, 440GX AGPSets Intel 430FX, 430TX, 440FX, 430VX, 430HX PCISets 2. Supported operating systems: Microsoft Windows NT4.0 with either Service Pack 3 or 4 pre-installed. SP5 has not yet been tested with this driver. 3. There should be no other IDE controllers enabled on the system (e.g., PCI add- in IDE controller, sound card with IDE controller, etc.). 4. When using Ultra ATA/66 devices, be sure to use an 80-conductor IDE cable. This driver will not perform Ultra DMA Mode 3/4 transfers unless the special 80-conductor cable is installed. ******************************************************************************* * 3. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ******************************************************************************* 1) Read and agree to the Intel software license agreement 2) Select START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL. 3) Invoke the "SCSI Adapters" applet. Note that although the driver is to be installed under SCSI Adapters, the drier only supports ATA/ATAPI devices. 4) Click on the folder tab labeled "Drivers." The currently installed SCSI adapter drivers will be listed in the Drivers menu. 5) Select the existing controller listed, then select "Remove" to remove the driver. 6) Select "Add..." to add a new driver. 7) From the "Install Disk" dialog box, select "Have Disk". 8) The "Windows NT Setup" dialog box will appear prompting for the path of the installation files. Specify the location of the driver installation directory( D:\BusMastr\ATA_Nt40) when prompted to do so. 9) Click on "Intel Ultra ATA Controller" and then click "Ok". NOTE: If the driver was previously installed on the system, a dialog box will appear that states that driver for the "Intel PIIX PCI Bus Master IDE controller" or "Intel Ultra ATA Controller" is already on the system. If this occurs, select "New" to install the new driver. 10) When prompted, reboot the system as directed in order for the changes to take effect. NOTE: After installation, the INTELATA.SYS file is stored in the \System32\Drivers directory. ******************************************************************************* * 4. VERIFYING SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION ******************************************************************************* 1) Select "My Computer". 2) Open the "Control Panel" Folder. 3) Invoke the "SCSI Adapters" applet. 4) A list of active SCSI adapters and connected devices will be displayed. One or more instances of "Intel Ultra ATA Controller" should be listed. NOTE: This text may vary according to the release of Windows* NT 4.0. One instance will be listed for each controller interface that is currently enabled with devices connected to it. ******************************************************************************* * 5. DE-INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE ******************************************************************************* To de-install the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver: 1) Select "My Computer." 2) Open the "Control Panel" Folder. 3) Invoke the "SCSI Adapters" applet. 4) Click on the folder tab labeled "Drivers". The currently installed SCSI adapter drivers will be listed in the Drivers menu. 5) The display should list "Intel Ultra ATA Controller". If it is listed, select it. Then, select "Remove" to remove the driver. 6) Select "Add..." to add a new driver. 7) From the "Install Driver" dialog box (left dialog box), select "Standard mass storage controllers." 8) In the SCSI Adapter dialog (right dialog box), select the default ATAPI driver, "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/Dual-channel PCI IDE Controller" and click "Ok" to install the driver. NOTE: Since this driver was previously installed on the system, a dialog box will appear that states that driver for the "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/ Dual-channel PCI IDE Controller" is already on the system.
