What is Permiter for?
---------------------

This simple program allows you to change user and group permissions on Windows NT NTFS file system.

Normally you will use NT explorer => Security for that purpose, but in some cases you'll have a problem with that.

Consider the following example:
The user ADAM has READ access to D:\APPS, and NO ACCESS to D:\APPS\DB.
You want to give a new user, EVE, CHANGE permission to D:\APPS and all of its sub-directories, without affecting permissions to other users.
Using the "Permission" button from the Properties sheet of D:\APPS, won't allow you that.

Permiter can help you add/change or remove permissions for individual user/group, without affecting other.
It is just a GUI interface to a command of Windows NT, named CACLS, which actually doe's the work.

More examples to consider:

* The folder D:\USERS contains different permissions on each subfolder.
You wish to assign a specific user "No Access" to all sub-folders, or you may wish to grant the Administrators group "Read" permission to all sub-folders.
You do not want to modify the permissions for other users/groups.

* You wish to remove the "No Access" permission from the above example...


Installation:
-------------
1) Copy the program files to wherever you want. (Only PERMITER.EXE is needed to run the program).
2) If you wish to right-click a folder and start Permiter for quick access, click the check box "Associate with folders".

This version of Permiter is Freeware, meaning you may freely use it, and copy to other, with the one condition that you don't change anything in any of the program files.
