Introduction
Frequently Asked Questions
Your own server?
Business Partner Commission Plan
The growth of the Internet and the World Wide Web is exploding. Like many others, your interest in creating a business for yourself on the Internet is well founded. To empower entrepreneurs such as yourself, am.net has established the Business Partner Program. This program allows agencies, consultants, and value-added resellers the ability to carve out their own niche on the Internet without the investment of the many tens of thousands of dollars necessary to install and maintain high-speed communication lines and high performance Internet server hardware. Through this program, your company can offer top quality Internet services and access to businesses worldwide.
As an am.net Business Partner you can earn on-going commission on selling these services to your customers. You can generate additional income by providing value-added services to your customers.
am.net provides a full range of Internet services. Our Web Site Hosting services are the most technologically advanced and the most full-featured in the industry. We strive to continue providing the most effective Web features available including those for commerce, security and support for design or programming skills outside your area of expertise.
Take your time to review the information provided herein to determine your exact interest in this program. However, please do not hesitate in your decision to act. Although we have not placed a limit on the total number of Business Partners, we may close enrollment in the program at any time. Complete the application and mail or email it to the return address provided. If you qualify, a partner agreement will be return emailed to you. In less than a week, you can be online as our newest Business Partner and begin to market your highest quality Internet services.
am.net does not guarantee your acceptance into the Business Partner Program. Factors which may determine qualification:
In addition to the highest quality hardware and access, we can provide sales and marketing assistance and even sales leads! Our technical staff can solve your most difficult problems and give you a valuable resource for programming and advanced scripting. am.net also offers the most advanced Web solutions possible today including the most comprehensive database and commerce services. Our goal is to offer every effective tool available to developers and, in turn, make them available to you.
All we require of our Partners is a commitment to growth and development. To maintain your membership in the am.net Business Partners Program, the highest standards of customer service and deployment must be adhered to at all times.
For the most part, you are free to run your service as an independent business with full control over the content, clients and file updates. Your custom pricing will reflect the value added services only you can provide.
Being an am.net Business Partner has many advantages:
The Business Partner Program is perfect for those professionals who want to integrate the Internet and related technologies into their product and service offering, but if you are not ready to jump into the Internet services business, you can still benefit from association with am.net by participating in our Sales Agent Program or our Referral Program.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your own server?
Business Partner Commission Plan
Does am.net supply me with sales leads?
Yes and No. The primary source of your business will be from your own internal marketing efforts. But because am.net's promotional activities can generate so many leads, it may be impossible for us to service them all. Leads are frequently given to Business Partners based on the regional or specific services requested by the client.
What do I charge my clients for my services?
Although we do have a recommended price structure, this is completely up to you. Research your market to set a fair rate for your services.
Does am.net require me to meet sales quotas or pay any fees for this program?
No. We set up the Business Partner Program to enable you to become successful. We understand that it takes time to develop your business, and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to join this program.
If I need help, what do I do?
Your first source of support will be the online documentation on our web site. If you can't find your answer, we can always be reached by either e-mail (which is the preferred method), fax, or phone.
If my customers have problems, who do they call?
You will provide most of the support to your customers, however, they can contact us for any information that you are unable to provide. Please note that Business Partners receive priority support, so your customers may get their questions answered faster if they go through you.
I am a multimedia developer with sales skills but I do not know CGI scripting. What can I do?
am.net allows you to outsource complex elements of development to our programmers. Simply submit a complete description of the service desired and we will quote you a development fee that you can work into your client's setup.
Do I need to mention am.net to my clients at all?
You don't have to, but you might find it advantageous to be able to present your company as an associate of a highly-visible Internet Services Company.
Do I get any assistance in marketing or selling Internet services?
Yes! Not only do you get sales literature you can use, one of our engineers can also accompany you on a sales call for large projects or help you determine the right products or services for a particular customer.
Do I get any training?
Yes. To become a Business Partner you must attend the FREE Program Details and Services Overview training session. After this session, you can receive fee-based training on more technical and specialized topics.
You will also receive a monthly newsletter informing you of the latest happenings in the Internet industry to keep you up to date in this fast-changing environment. You will save many hours by having access to all the research we do on the latest Internet tools and technologies.
Will my customers be taken care of if I no longer participate in the Business Partner Program?
Yes. We are here for you and your customers if they need us.
What if I want to setup my own Web Server instead of using your Web Site Hosting services?
Although we think that you will find it cost effective to outsource your web hosting needs to us (or to co-locate your server with us, i.e. to have us take care of your server for you on our premises), we will be more than happy to provide you with a turn-key web server with whatever connectivity you might need and as much hand-holding as you need. To get an idea of what it takes to setup your own web server, here is a rough break-down:
Initial Costs (expect to have to replace or significantly upgrade within 2 years):
| Server, UNIX or Windows NT | $5,000-15,000 |
| Router, CSU/DSU, modems, etc. | $3,000-$5,000 |
| Accessory-type hardware (UPS, Tape backup, etc.) | $2,000-$3,000 |
| Software: web server, mail server, listserver, log analysis, database, secure transactions, site management, scripting utilities and tools | $3,000-$15,000 |
| Installation Fees from phone company and an Internet Service Provider (ISP) | $1,500-$3,000 |
| Integration Services required to get the whole thing working | $500-$2,000 |
| Total initial costs | $15,000-$43,000 |
|---|
Monthly Costs:
| Internet Connectivity costs (phone company and ISP) | $1,000-$4,000 |
| Server maintenance costs (salary) | $2,000-$5,000 |
| On-going research required to keep adding new capabilities requested by customers, such as audio, e-mail to fax/pager gateways, new secure transaction technologies, etc. | $1,000-$3,000 |
| Writing/implementing scripts for customers. (You cannot charge for all of them, some scripts, such as forms processing, etc., customers will expect as part of the basic service) | $500-$1,000 |
| On-going consulting services to fix problems that may arise with the server (example: one call to Microsoft for TCP/IP questions costs $150) | $500-$1,000 |
| Total monthly costs | $5,000-$14,000 |
|---|
Total cost for owning your own Web server for 2 years = $135,000-$379,000
At the least, 25 customers would be necessary to break even!
Based on this break-down, we think you would agree with us that instead of spending money, you would rather be making money by selling our web site hosting services.
